Logistics Update Q2 2021

Amazon’s arrival spurs increased interest in Quad Cities region

Drivers

  • With the recent announcement of Amazon locating in the Quad Cities, the region is receiving more inquiries from companies that are interested in locating and/or doing business in the QC.
  • Consumers’ expectations for rapid online deliveries are spurring the increased demand for the “smart warehouse.”  Automation and the use of robots are allowing for more orders to be picked and shipped at faster speeds.

Drawbacks

  • Drivers with Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL) continue to be a high-demand occupation of local employers. Local training providers are consistently graduating qualified drivers, but the supply of certified drivers is not enough to meet local demand.
  • The rising rate of identity theft, fraud and counterfeit products are threatening e-commerce supply chains and distribution networks, therefore increasing the need for implementing prevention tactics.
