Logistics Update Q1 2022

Logistics Update Q1 2022

Drivers

  • Eastern Iowa Community Colleges will introduce a 100% online Associate of Applied Science in Supply Chain & Logistics this fall, one of only two community colleges in Iowa that will offer the two-year degree.
  • Local warehouse/distribution centers are noticing individuals with very different career backgrounds are applying for positions, such as CNAs and food service workers. Applicants are seeking new positions that offer comparable wages, less physical labor and more shift flexibility.
  • As transportation costs continue to rise companies are seeking locations closer to their customers and suppliers.
  • Distribution centers continue to have excess inventory as a way to avoid shortages due to supply chain disruptions.

Drawbacks

  • QC employers in the logistic industry are challenged with labor shortages (specifically truck drivers), a lack of shipping containers, high transportation costs and supply chain disruptions.
