Logistics Update Q3 2021

Infrastructure bill will boost investment in transportation assets

Drivers

  • With the passing of the infrastructure bill, logistics providers look forward to having some of the capacity issues relieved with investment of new and improved transportation assets.
  • Shipping companies and distributors are in mergers and acquisitions mode to not only expand their existing reach and network but also to expand their efficiency with new technologies.
  • As consumers are purchasing more of their grocery products online, food suppliers and distribution companies are aiming to expand cold storage systems and warehouses.

Drawbacks

  • CDL drivers continue to be a high need occupation of local employers. Local training providers are consistently graduating qualified drivers, but the supply of certified drivers is not enough to meet local demand.
  • Distribution and warehouse companies continue to be challenged with supply chain disruptions, labor shortage and increased demand spurred by online shopping.
