Statement on Iowa Gov. Reynolds’ Condition of the State Address

January 14, 2025
Reynolds

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds presented the Condition of the State to the newly sworn-in General Assembly, touching on issues that are top priorities for the Quad Cities business community. The Quad Cities Chamber is providing the following statements in response to the address.

Taxes

The movement toward a flat tax of 3.5% for individuals and pass-through businesses, and 5.5% for corporations makes Iowa a more attractive location for people and businesses to put down roots. We’re pleased to see Gov. Reynolds continue to emphasize the importance of making Iowa a great place to do business.

Unemployment Insurance

We are pleased to see Gov. Reynolds ask the General Assembly to take another look at reducing the unemployment insurance burden on Iowa businesses.

Energy & Infrastructure

The largest barrier to new economic development in the Quad Cities, next to site availability, is energy. We are eager to see Gov. Reynolds’ ideas related to nuclear energy and increasing capacity and infrastructure resources.

Child Care

Child care is a top workforce issue in the Quad Cities. Gov. Reynolds’ proposal to expand the Community Solutions Fund and create “continuum of care” grants to support transportation and service offerings have the potential to make a difference for the Quad Cities.
