Quad Cities legacy business, Parr Instrument Company broke ground for its $22 million expansion in Moline on Friday, April 12. The company, which celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, will more than double the size of its existing operation at 211 53rd St., Moline. The annual economic impact of the project is $80,309,923.

Privately owned and founded in 1899, Parr creates laboratory research equipment including calorimeters, pressure vessels and chemical reactors. They've been in Moline since 1911.

"We're celebrating our heritage, our values and 125 years in business," said company President and COO, Jim Nelson. "There are few companies founded in 1899 that are still in business, let alone a company of our size."

Currently Parr employs 94 people, and looks forward to expanding. "We are more relevant today than ever. Our contributions to research performed globally only continues to grow - whether it's in chemistry, material science, energy, nutrition, defense - the list goes on," said Nelson.

In the works for close to 5 years, the decision to expand instead of move was one that did not come easily. With support from the City of Moline, Quad Cities Chamber and others, Parr was able to make the project happen.

“Parr is a great example of manufacturing in the Quad Cities. They make very unique products and have a very specialized workforce,” said Chris Caves, Vice President of Business and Economic Growth at the Chamber. “They’re expanding their markets and their product offerings right here in Moline. It’s a really encouraging investment in our region. It takes many partners to bring a project of this size and scope to reality."

In attendance at the event were Moline City officials, as well as project partners Legat Architects, Russell Construction and representatives from the Quad Cities Chamber.
