Lethia Wright launched her business Magical Moments Learning Center offering daycare, preschool and before- and after-school programs. Five years prior to opening the business, Wright was an in-home daycare provider, taking care of 32 children on average. Since opening in March, Magical Moments has grown its capacity and now cares for 60 children.

Wright said the business advisors at the Iowa Small Business Development Center at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges went above and beyond to help her launch her business. She described SBDC Iowa Regional Director Joel Youngs as a "go-getter who went above and beyond" for her business. “Joel saw the passion I had and was extremely helpful. If it weren't for Joel, I wouldn’t have been able to grow Magical Moments and move into the new learning center. He taught me a lot about different resources and helped guide me to the right people to talk to,” Wright said.

Wright is proud of her business and is confident it will continue to expand. She describes herself as “down to earth and understanding with parents” who she knows are often overwhelmed by trying to find childcare. Wright makes it a priority to help parents through any obstacles or challenges and prioritizes her students above all else. Her staff is just as dedicated, she said.

Wright believes in the philosophy of “just do it,” and that is the advice she offers all potential small business owners. “If you have a dream or a vision, jump in and go for it. Don’t live a life of fear or wondering what could have been. You must have passion and put your all in, especially when you are getting started. It isn’t easy in the beginning, but it is very fulfilling,” she said.
