Quad Cities Chamber Washington DC Trip

The Quad Cities Chamber delegation traveled to our nation’s capital this week to advocate for our federal legislative priorities. Throughout the visit, the Chamber discussed multiple priorities including funding for site readiness, short-term Pell Grant legislation, immigration and child care.

Those traveling with the Chamber included: Rock Island Mayor, Mike Thoms and Davenport Mayor, Mike Matson along with representatives from Arconic, John Deere, Dohrn Transfer, IMEG, MetroLINK, The Associated General Contractors of the Quad Cities and Tri-City Electric, as well as representatives from the Cities of Bettendorf, Davenport, Moline and Rock Island. The group met with U.S. Senate and House members over two days.

Specifically, the Chamber promoted the ONSHORE Act, a bill introduced in the Senate that would provide grants to assist in developing shovel-ready sites. They also advocated for the passage of legislation allowing Pell grants to be used for short-term, non-credit hour credentials. These bills align with the Chamber’s Federal Legislative Agenda of enhancing business and economic growth and developing and retaining skilled labor in the region.

The Chamber met with the following members during their trip:

  • U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (Illinois)
  • U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (Illinois)
  • U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (Iowa)
  • U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley (Iowa)
  • U.S. Representative Darin LaHood (Illinois)
  • U.S. Representative Marianette Miller-Meeks (Iowa)
  • U.S. Representative Eric Sorensen (Illinois)
