Chamber Advocates for you with Congressional candidates

October 30, 2024
GA Update

Throughout October, the Quad Cities Chamber leveraged its relationships with elected leaders and candidates for federal office to create new experiences for its members and investors. The Chamber hosted Congressional members Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R - IA) and Eric Sorensen (D - IL); and candidates Christina Bohannan (D - IA) and Joe McGraw (R - IL).

Throughout these events, which included speeches by each candidate, Q&A and individual conversations, candidates discussed various issues impacting the Quad Cities region.

All candidates were asked to detail their perspective on the extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Extension and changes to certain provisions would have a major impact on the local manufacturing economy and small businesses. Additionally, the candidates spoke about the importance of not allowing key tax cuts to expire, along with the need to reinstate provisions that have previously expired. They also discussed the ONSHORE Act, a bill to create new grant programs to support site-readiness and answered other questions from attendees.

The Chamber's goals next year will include:

  • Reinstatement of current deductibility in the year expenses are incurred
  • Reinstatement of 100% Bonus Depreciation
  • Continuation of the 20% Qualified Business Income Deduction for pass-through entities
  • Inclusion of new provisions that improve the Quad Cities' economic development

“The Quad Cities Chamber is a nonpartisan, pro-business organization," said Ryan Sempf, Executive Director for Government Affairs at the Chamber. We will work tirelessly and collaboratively with our congressional partners to fight for pro-growth policies.”
