The recent expansion of Bayside Bistro into Rock Island did more than contribute to the economic success and strength of the city; it is having that same effect on the entire QC region. Between the investment in the building and equipment, the jobs created and owners Darryl and LaTisha Howlett’s growing businesses and customer base, Bayside Bistro will have an annual economic impact of $645,726 on our region.

But the Howletts' approach their entrepreneurial role in a much more personal matter, striving daily to make an impact on customers and their health goals and needs. “It is our golden rule; we treat people the way we want to be treated,” LaTisha Howlett said.

The couple opened the restaurant at 2704 18th Ave., Rock Island, in November 2021. It was their second QC location and now, the primary location. They celebrated with a Quad Cities Chamber ribbon cutting this summer and said it wasn’t the first time its team has stood with them. The Chamber has helped them make connections with businesses and customers, provided relevant, up-to-date information throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and work through a complication with a PPE loan application. But Bayside Bistro’s success is tied to its mission to provide a high level of care to all customers.

Bayside Bistro makes every menu item from scratch. “Everything is made with love and it is authentic. We don’t use anything that is pre-packaged. Everything is made here in-house, including our desserts and sauces. We don’t take shortcuts because then we can control the process, the flavor and know exactly what is in it,” she said.

That allows Bayside Bistro to cater each dish to the health and dietary needs of each person. The staff explains the menu in-depth tableside, asks questions and offers solutions. “They know they can relax here, have a good meal and trust our process,” she said. It is a unique niche that has given the restaurant a loyal customer base that continually returns.

The couple's long-term goal is to have 12 locations. They plan to build the staff up to 13 workers and expand catering operations. They also want to begin offering meal prep services for individuals and families this fall.
