Amazon’s WIO4 last-mile delivery station brings jobs, economic momentum to the QC
Amazon’s newest addition in Davenport is helping move packages across the region faster and more efficiently than ever before. The new Amazon last-mile delivery station, WIO4, is designed to streamline the final stage of the delivery process, helping get packages from regional hubs to customers’ doorsteps across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
Local leaders gathered Friday, May 15, to celebrate and cut the ribbon on this 96,000 square-foot facility, located at 9000 N. Division St. in Davenport, near Amazon’s Robotics Fulfillment Center, which opened in 2023 and employs approximately 2,400 people.
The WIO4 delivery station s
erves customers within a more than 60-mile radius of Davenport, stretching west to Durant, east to Sterling, north to Maquoketa and south to Galesburg.
“We’re very appreciative that Amazon is part of our Chamber family, and that they’re continually investing in this community. The investment is not only in this wonderful facility, but in the convenience they’re providing our residents, and the jobs they’ve created in the QC,” said Peter Tokar, President & CEO of the Chamber and Grow Quad Cities.
WIO4 currently employs 675 Amazon associates, including 349 on-site associates and 326 delivery drivers. Amazon officials say the company is continuing to hire both full-time and part-time employees into 2026, with positions starting at $19 per hour. The facility’s delivery operations have three Delivery Service Partners (DSPs), wh
ich together support more than 200 drivers. In addition to DSP operations, approximately 40 Amazon Flex routes are delivered daily, helping the station manage roughly 150 total delivery routes each day
“When Amazon came here originally, the expectation was around 1,000 jobs,” said Davenport Mayor Jason Gordon. “We’re at about 3,000 jobs between the Fulfillment Center and this facility. It’s a great success story. Our local construction crews and subcontractors did the bulk of the work on these facilities– so we’re very thankful for that. We’re at about a $300M community investment.”
Since opening in October 2025, the facility has processed more than 2.84 million packages. During its most recent operating week, the station dispatched more than 184,000 packages and successfully delivered more than 180,000. On average, the facility processes approximately 26,000 packages each day. The station experienced its highest monthly volume during the 2025 holiday season, processing nearly 369,000 packages in December alone.
“The City of Davenport and the Quad Cities Chamber are best-in-class examples of what it means to be great partners and collaborators in growth and development,” said Jason Vangelis, Manager, Economic Development at Amazon. “The State of Iowa has also been a great example of that. We’ve invested over $5 billion and added over 7,000 employees across Iowa.”
The opening of WIO4 further strengthens the Quad Cities region’s role as a growing logistics and distribution hub in the Midwest.
“The Grow Quad Cities team works every day to create long-term prosperity for this region by not only attracting new investment, but by helping existing companies continue to grow and succeed here,” said Tami Petsche, Vice President, Business Attraction for Grow QC. “Amazon’s expansion in Davenport is a great example of that work in action. The result is more jobs, more opportunity and continued economic momentum for the Quad Cities region,” she said.
