FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE— June 28, 2017
WHAT: Quad City Arts’ Chalk Art FEST
WHEN: August 25th
WHERE: Downtown Davenport, 2nd & Perry St. going east to 2nd & Iowa Ave.
Quad City Arts will take over a several blocks of downtown Davenport this summer for its first ever Chalk Art FEST, part of downtown Davenport’s Alternating Currents Festival. Inspired by SXSW, Alternating Currents will feature a variety of live bands, comedians, film screenings and other art forms throughout downtown Davenport over the 2-day event.
The Chalk Art FEST will be a free, family-friendly event, where visitors can watch in awe as local artists transform the plain black asphalt into magnificent works of art. Artists will compete for $1,500 in cash prizes, including a people’s choice award. The community can also participate in creating some chalk art, by taking part in a collaborative community piece, where for a $10 donation, participants are given a set of pastel chalk to create a smaller square portion of a larger image. When finished, the larger image will come to life as a complete work of art! As if all this isn’t enough to draw a crowd, you can also shop for some unique vintage and handmade wares at the OMG BeckyFest, taking place in River Center park just across the street. www.craftedqc.com/beckyfest.
Quad City Arts and MidCoast Fine Arts will also be hosting an opening reception for the “Out and About” Art Exhibition at Bucktown Center for the Arts on 2nd Street, Friday, August 25th
Registration for the Chalk Art FEST is FREE to all artists, and chalk will be provided. Awards will be presented at a formal check ceremony on Saturday, August 26###sup
