The Quad Cities Chamber hosted Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner today where he addressed a crowd of 150 local leaders. Gov. Rauner shared his plan to make the state of Illinois more efficient and effective by reforming the political and government processes, the school system, and economic climate. Within the government process, Gov. Rauner is focused on modernizing its IT infrastructure to become more efficient, consolidate levels of government, reform the government procurement process, and becoming more competitive for economic development.
Through these areas of reform, Gov. Rauner stated he can cut costs to meet a balanced budget, all while retaining essential services including many of the social services and non-profits that are currently being impacted by the budget stalemate.
Throughout Gov. Rauner's speech, he underscored the importance of constituent involvement. Chamber members have a number of opportunities to influence policymakers through our annual advocacy trips to Springfield, Des Moines, and Washington, D.C., as well as through Illinois and Iowa Legislative Luncheons.
