Representatives from the Quad Cities Chamber participated in the recent Future Ready Iowa regional summit in Davenport. Held throughout the state, the summits bring together key stakeholders in education, business, economic development and community to create local strategies that ensure all Iowans are future ready. According to 2016 Occupational Employment Statistics, 53% of jobs in Iowa require education or training beyond high school, but only 36% of the workforce meets these qualifications.
The summit featured several speakers discussing strategies that engage underutilized workforce populations, including ex-convicts and those with disabilities. Education representatives also shared case examples involving apprenticeships, academies, and partnerships with community colleges, as well as other development opportunities.
