Students from the Rock Island INCubatoredu Entrepreneurship team L.E.A.D. (Leading Everyday and Driving to Success) won the top prize last week at a National Pitch Competition sponsored by INCubatoredu’s Uncharted Learning Foundation. The team is starting a non-profit organization that will teach leadership skills to African American students at the Rock Island Academy (an elementary school in our region). Rashawn Overton, Romar Cantu, and Cornelius Aldridge won $7500 through the competition. Romar stated during the pitch, “we aren’t trying to close the achievement gap, we are trying to close the opportunity gap.” We couldn’t be more proud to have such an outstanding group of Quad Citizens representing our region. Congratulations and keep up the good work!
Each year the Quad Cities Chamber invites students from the Entrepreneur programs at Davenport West and Rock Island High Schools to attend the Annual Meeting. This is a great opportunity for our youth to connect with the business community. If you would like to sponsor a student at this year’s Annual Meeting, please contact Gwen for more details.
