Over thirty business and community leaders met with top lawmakers in Washington, D.C. last week to advocate on issues important to the Quad Cities region and economy. Meetings included: three senior policy advisors to the President, the six Members of the Quad Cities’ Congressional Delegation, and top staff at the Departments of Commerce, Transportation, Energy and the Pentagon. In addition to these leaders, our Reception was also attended by Iowa Gov. Branstad, Rep. LaHood, and a wide variety of congressional and agency staff, lobbyists, and representatives from partner communities.
The group pushed issues including: locating new missions at and support for the Rock Island Arsenal, continuing to invest in top infrastructure projects (such as I-74, I-80, passenger rail, and the Mississippi River lock and dams), smart regulatory reforms, trade policies to ensure access to foreign markets, and continued investment in programs that support business, workforce, community, and economic growth, and ensure access to clean and affordable energy.
Advocacy never stops, and the Chamber will continue to work with federal lawmakers to enact policies that grow our economy. Thanks to all of our members who engage in our advocacy efforts, and let us know if you’re interested in getting involved! Finally, a special thank-you to our sponsors for making this year’s trip and our efforts possible!
