The Quad Cities Chamber has been very active the past two weeks, leading the charge on issues that matter to businesses in the Quad Cities and our economy – things like work comp reform; a fair and balanced budget; economic development incentives that facilitate expansion; and infrastructure investments that support business growth.

Last week on Monday and Tuesday, Chamber staff participated in “Business Days on the Hill” in Des Moines, alongside others from the Iowa Chamber Alliance and Association of Business and Industry in an effort to push business-friendly policies. On Wednesday and Thursday, a delegation of 28 business and community leaders participated in the Chamber's annual trip to Springfield to meet with the governor, legislators and department heads in Springfield to encourage action on a budget that will get the state back on track and “open for business” once again. The Quad Cities Chamber and St. Louis Regional Chamber joined forces to put on a legislative lunch and reception. We used the opportunity to collaborate with the St. Louis Regional Chamber, build relationships with other legislators and discuss priorities that our two regions share, such as passage of a budget, attention to pension and workers compensation reform, support for our military assets, attention to the Mississippi River as a commercial priority and bi-state economy issues.

We have serious budget and policy concerns in both states right now and the actions taken by our legislators will either help or hinder our competitive position in the years ahead. We very much appreciate those who have participated in our trips, small group meetings, legislative lunches and other calls to action that can help influence the direction of our states and economy long-term.
