One of the goals of the Q2030 Regional Action Plan is to create a welcoming community in which all Quad Citizens are embraced, have equal opportunity for success and know that their differences are the foundation for the region's success. Many of our region's top companies have made it a core value that their employment reflects shifting demographic trends. In Q2030's newest video, Greg Aguilar, the Chamber's Talent Attraction & Retention Director talks about how diversity is about a community's mix of people; how inclusion is making that mix work; and how equity is ensuring everyone in our region has the tools and opportunities needed to be successful.
Diversity and inclusion are critical to our region's success. Consider that in the next 20 years, the number of people of color in the U.S. will quadruple. From 1980 to 2040, the non-white U.S. population will have gone from 7.9 percent to 32.9 percent. Communities of color are the fastest-growing segments of the population in most regions - including ours. But these groups tend to face the most barriers to accessing the educational and economic opportunities they need to fully participate and prosper. It is of particular interest to our economic and social growth as a region to prioritize this now as employers, educators, community leaders, government officials.
This latest Q2030 video helps amplify the conversation; asks the right questions; and reflects diverse populations from around the world who call the Quad Cities home.
