Marvel at all the Quad Cities has to see and do!  Chill out and have a relaxing getaway during the 16th annual “Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard Weekend” on January 13-16, 2017, for the Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (QCCVB) popular winter promotion.

50 Quad Cities businesses and organizations have issued coupons that are good for this weekend, and some continue even longer.  18 hotels in the Quad Cities area are offering special rates and packages for the weekend.  34 other area attractions, shops, spas, restaurants, and businesses are offering great discounts. 

“With Monday, January 16 a holiday for many parents and students, that weekend is a great time to be a tourist in your own backyard and enjoy an affordable hotel stay,” says Joe Taylor, President/CEO of the QCCVB.  “People don’t have to travel far during the winter or spend a lot of money to have a great and affordable weekend getaway.”

Go Bananas for Reading at a Winter Reading Kickoff hosted by the Rock Island Public Library and the Quad City Botanical Center on Saturday, January 14 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Botanical Center, 2525 4###sup Ave. in Rock Island.  Warm up with a special family event, reading contest registration, sandcastle building, and free fun for all ages.  Get your Winter Reading registration prize while supplies last. Enjoy a new Winter Carnival in Bettendorf, Iowa, on Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with outside and inside activities.  At the Family Museum and Bettendorf Library complex, they will have ice sculpture carving demonstrations, ice painting, sled pull, and snow games outside at Faye’s Field.  Inside the Family Museum, make a milk jug igloo and watch dry ice demonstrations.  Inside the Bettendorf Library, watch juggling, magic, balloon creations, and take part in other activities.  Go ice skating at the new outdoor rink at Middle Park, or go cross country skiing or sledding at Palmer Hills Golf Course.  The Life Fitness Center has plenty of winter-themed indoor activities.  Visit www.bettendorf.org for more information.

Icestravaganza returns for its fifth year on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Freight House, 421 W. River Dr. in Davenport, Iowa, with more interactive ice sculptures created on-site, live music, ice princess guests, kids’ activities, extended Farmers Market hours, and an after-hours tasting event.  Icestravaganza has two very special sisters making an appearance this year.  Elsa and Anna will mingle and take photos with guests from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The family fun doesn’t stop there; Icestravaganza offers FREE indoor kids’ activities including a cookie decorating station, crafts, and Davenport Public Library story time.  The Icestravaganza tasting event from 6-8 p.m. features Front Street Brewery craft beer and signature cocktails from Mississippi River Distillery and Artisan Grain Distillery and will feature ice drink luges and a bar made of nothing but ice!  Visit www.DowntownDavenport.com for more information.
